La toxine partiellement purifiée de filets de poissons ayant provoqué un empoisonnement a été identifiée comme étant une tétrodotoxine et une anhydrotétrodotoxine. Les méthodes de biologie moléculaire ont permis d'identifier l'espèce de poisson incriminée, il s'agit du Lagocephalus lunaris.
